Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany in Mindhunter

Mindhunter hunts down grisly psychopaths

Netflix hopes you haven’t a weak stomach. Its new series is loosely based on the biography Mindhunter by Special Agent John Douglas going back over his “most gruesome, fascinating, and challenging cases”.

Set in 1979, Mindhunter focuses on an FBI agent in the Elite Serial Crime Unit, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), based on the aforementioned John Douglas. Ford will work with agent Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) and psychologist Dr. Wendy Carr (Anna Torv, Fringe).

David Fincher is on board as an executive producer, and just looking at the trailer you can see Zodiac written all over it. Although Fincher will be directing the first three episodes, like with House of Cards, who knows how much of a hand he (and another executive producer, Charlize Theron) will actually have in the series as it progresses.

Mindhunter is coming to Netflix October 13th, 2017.
