K’pow! Netflix is powering up its Marvel properties. We’ve already had Daredevil seasons one and two, and initial seasons for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. 2017 is no exception.
Upcoming this year are shows for Iron Fist and The Punisher, and a team-up in The Defenders. It’s a full plate of comic book goodness. Hopefully you aren’t sick of superheroes, because they’re hitting your lounge in force.
We’ll start with the big guns of course, The Defenders miniseries (8 episodes isn’t really a miniseries but anyway), the teaming up of Netflix’s four main Marvel protagonists. It’s The Avengers lite. But I for one can’t wait to hear the banter and bickering that comes out when this lot is put together. Oh, and Sigourney Weaver is the big bad. So yes, I’m excited. With 8 episodes hopefully that’s the magic number so we don’t have to deal with the dragging plots of earlier seasons.
The Defenders is scheduled for mid 2017.
Iron Fist has received some deserved controversy over its casting of a white man performing martial arts. Although Danny Rand is white in the comics, the word on the street is the creators didn’t want to cast an Asian actor for fear of falling into the same Asian stereotypes in the comics. Which is a mighty shame. Here’s hoping the rest of the cast balances out.
The full season of Iron Fist is due to drop March 17 2017.
The Punisher has already taken up quite a bit of time in Daredevil season two, and he was my least favourite part of the season. I wanted more Elektra. Needless to say I’m not looking forward to this one. But I will watch it, as my duty to you dear reader and let you know which parts are worth watching (if any). Yes, I’m being rather down on The Punisher. Sorry, not sorry. Hoping to be proven wrong
The Punisher is scheduled to release this year. I’m guessing well after Iron Fist and probably after The Defenders.
